Becoming a founder
As entrepreneurs we have to step forward with intention. We must be intentional in our journey for both ourselves and our businesses.
I have been in a position where I have been lucky enough to use the time covid has presented to grow myself both professionally and personally. It is a privilege I will never forget nor take for granted.
One of the most eye opening aspects of this journey in entrepreneurship has been the difference between what I thought it would be like to what it actually is like. I remember thinking that I just needed to learn ‘Business’ (with a capital B). However, it soon became apparent that I would be working on myself just as much, if not more, than the big B. It's fair to say that my personal growth has been as big, if not bigger than that of my business!
I try to take a holistic view of my life and so invested in more than a few mentors and coaches and through my experiences with them I can honestly say I am now a different person to who I was 18 months ago. I am excited that I’m moving towards the person I want and need to be to enable my business to have the impact and contribution to the world that I envision.
Reflecting on this time has got me thinking about the important steps and enablers that I needed to progress on my journey. Over the next few weeks I want to share my biggest takeaways from some of the areas I have focused on.
Let’s start with our environment;
· Is our environment conducive to take you where you need to go?
· What are my daily rituals that set me up to be the best version of myself every day?
With the double whammy of only ever having previously worked for companies with offices and the covid induced WFH situation, finding my ideal physical and mental work environment was (and still at times is) tough. Having only known truly ‘separate’ work and personal spaces it was a real challenge to deal with having everything under one roof, desk space, project workspace, studio space, not to mention the all important zoom backdrop… throw in an attached 2 ½ year old and a semi-detached Husband it has been chaotic to say the least and is still very much a work in progress!
I have had to create both physical and mental boundaries to separate myself so I can really get my head down and work. I find having a clear daily schedule that is shared with the family each breakfast time helps everyone know when I am and am not available for disturbing!
But the environment isn’t just inside it’s also external space - I value and am extremely grateful that I live in a condo with outside space. So whilst our gyms are shut I have ample green space that means I can exercise and get some ‘me’ time when I need it to help me refocus and get my creative juices flowing - currently quite often!
Would love to know how you find working from home! Please share your top tips!!
